Recording diary: we’re not recording yet

In a few days, we’ll set up shop in our rehearsal space again and start recording our next opus. Recording is TOTALLY RAD if you’re like me, and pretty boring otherwise.  But we’ll try to post some pics and videos as we go anyway.

We’ve spent the last week or two fine-tuning the new songs, and by “fine-tuning” I mean “showing up to practice too drunk to play” and “ordering a new A/D converter with next-day shipping.”

Here’s a picture of me practicing scales:

Also, everyone loves my Earache sticker. 1991!

THIS IS NOT A KOWLOON WALLED CITY RECORD

March 3, 2009

What really happens at KWC practice:

  • Thin Lizzy listening party
  • Pace hits the bong and talks about C-level Italian psych bands from 1973
  • Whitesnake “Ready & Willin’” on repeat
  • debates regarding Dio-era Sabbath
  • gse talks about how “I’m Going Mad” from The Scorpions “Lonesome Crow” is “his jam”
  • run to corner store for Tecate and “Duplex Creme” cookies
  • Pace keeps trying to fit this one shuffle riff into every song
  • Jeffrey does noodle dance to Hawkwind “In Search Of Space”

For RPM 2009, we harnessed all of this brainpower to create SNAILFACE. Written and recorded in 6 days, and mixed in another 5 days by Grammy-winning NYC big shot Greg Thompson, this shit will take you on a journey.

This is not to be mistaken for a KWC record.

Load up the riff pipe.

News Round-Up

A damn nice writeup in SFGate’s “Off the Record” blog.

Pics from the Noise Pop set. Evans looks like a gorilla.  wtf.

And we’re in this month’s Terrorizer. I’m told that we will now “be famous in Europe.” Click the thumbnails for big versions.

We’re in this month’s Guitar World. Somebody invent a time machine and tell the 15-year-old me.

More Noise, Less Pop

January 12, 2009

If we had to select a band as “Least Likely to Get Asked to Play Noise Pop 2009,” we thought Kowloon Walled City would have been a lock. But apparently the Metal Gods have a fucked-up sense of humor.

So, yeah. We’re opening for Goblin Cock, Mt. St. Helen’s Vietnam Band, and Warship. Gig is Thursday Feb. 26 at Rickshaw Stop, and it should be epic. Come early if you actually want to get in and not have to navigate through the crowd of out-of-town hipster record label douchebags to get to the bar.

Noise!

Tour recap

December 15, 2008

The tour was really good. Portland and Seattle shows were amazing… Madraso absolutely destroyed both nights. Big thanks to the bands that hooked us up with shows and played with us (Hookerfight, Lucika, Salvador, Mongoloid Village, Mico de Noche, Madraso, and others), the friends that let us crash on their floors, and everyone that came out to see a show. Hopefully we’ll do it again soon.

Pics here.

Idiotic/awesome video here.

We have one show on the books right now — January 17 with Earthless and Orchid — and then we’re going to try and get the next record finished and released. Plus, maybe a split 7.

This week: Sacramento, Eugene, Portland, Seattle

December 2, 2008

Tomorrow we’re heading off to play a few out-of-town shows — our first. With the day jobs and all, touring is hard to schedule.

I am stoked for all shows, but particularly for PDX and Seattle with Madraso, whose record was one of my favorites last year.

Here’s the info:

Wed 12/3 – Sacramento CA @ On The Y w/Hookerfight
Thu 12/4 – Eugene OR @ Samurai Duck w/Lucika
Fri 12/5 – Portland OR @ Ash Street Saloon w/Madraso, Mongoloid Village, Salvador
Sat 12/6 – Seattle WA @ Bit Saloon w/Madraso, Mica de Noche

We will get as many slow-mo “staring thoughtfully at the long, lonely road” shots as possible.
